I'd like to thank Judy over at Fabric Arts and Crafts
for her order of my new blank note cards and for so
kindly posting them with links on her blog!
Hope you have a chance to stop by her blog
where she creates wonderful art with paper
and fabric. She now has a second blog called Paper Perks
that you can see here.

Night Herons

Last night in the drizzle and humidity, we
took a little ride to the dock behind our
old gallery space. It was so magical to see
about 6 night herons gather on the boats, dock
and railings...some looked immature and were
probably learning how to fish.
It's these special moments that bring me so much joy!

Visiting Concord

Today (Saturday) we visited the town of Concord, Massachusetts
and the grounds of the home of Ralph Waldo Emerson
and Nathaniel Hawthorne and the Old North Bridge.
A warm summer day full of atmosphere and a sense of history,
calm and nature as we wandered through the garden
and along the Concord River and across the Old North Bridge.

The Old Manse

(when I got home I found my old drawing book
in which I had drawn the Old Manse in 1975!)

Vegetable garden at the Old Manse
"A recreation of Henry David Thoreau's vegetable garden,
planted in 1842 as a wedding gift to the Hawthornes,
still flourishes in the same location

This little rabbit was munching outside the garden.

Old North Bridge, Concord, Massachusetts

Over at the Alcott's Orchard House we discovered the birthday
of May Alcott had just been celebrated at the homestead.
We missed the celebration but enjoyed visiting
the outside grounds of her home.

"Orchard House was the Alcott family's
most permanent home (from 1858 to 1877)"
(also the setting for Louisa May Alcott's
"Little Women")

The heavy rain last night and into today created
a stormy sea with huge waves.
The ocean was dotted with 2 kinds of surfers
riding the waves.

The lilies are blooming in our garden.

What a delight!

Rainy Night Herons

Today was rainy and misty which continued into
evening as we took a little ride.
To our amazement, I spotted the black crowned
night heron on a dock.
As we got closer we discovered 4 or 5 herons
were fishing in the same vicinity.

Watching the Sea Ducks

About to take a walk along the
shore tonight when I spotted the
eiders surfing in the waves at
high tide.
Though the beach was quickly
disappearing in regards to taking
a walk, as the tide
was approaching the seawall,
it was perfect for watching the eiders
navigate the big surf!

New Cards and more helpers

I'm making blank note cards of my art and
was in the process of photographing them
when I was joined by my helper, Brody.
I feel so fortunate to have helpers in whichever
room I am working in.

Over in the studio/gallery, Ellie May
watches over the cards in the baskets.

Here's some of my note cards of scenes and shells.

(the photos become larger if you click on them!)

Monday Evening

Was a beautiful evening and I discovered
a little gem of a tide pool...

At the intersection in town with the gas station,
we heard music... the garage band was playing!

What a nice sight and sound!

Full Moon Sunday Night

Sunday evening I went down to the
beach in Kennebunk to write something
in the sand for my nephew and his fiancee
who are getting married in September.
While I was there the moon became serene and dreamlike!

We drove around to Ocean Ave. in Kennebunkport
as the moon rose and the sky changed....

What a beautiful evening to share with you here...

The 4th of July...continuing

It started the night before...
setting up the tent in the early
evening just before a thunderstorm.

That's my canopy with D kneeling down
driving stakes into the
ground way over on the right side of the
green under the tree.

On Saturday, July 4th, I participated
in the School Around Us Craft Fair.

My 10'x10' space under a tree with my
lightweight canopy was filled to the brim with
a little area for viewing.

All was well til the afternoon... 1st one little shower,
not too bad.
Around 1:30 pm. the skies looked threatening.
D was at home checking the weather radar on his
computer. A helper at the fair came around and
warned of a big storm approaching and for me
to move things to the center of the tent.

to be continued a bit later....

I'm back!
D drove down but couldn't find a nearby parking
space and ended up all the way up at the other
end of the green and down the road a bit near some
He appeared just minutes before the heavy downpour
and helped me move some of the things on the outside
and cover some of the print boxes.
Then we ran for it... as fast as we could go through the driving
rain with thunder! He suggested I wait it out in the car
and he would go back to the tent.

The rain was heavy and blowing sideways at times.

The clouds looked threatening for quite some time!

When the rain stopped, I headed back to my display was mostly dismantled and
the cloth coverings were wet...I waited it out
til about 4 pm. to pack it all up but really no
one stopped to look for there was not much to
see at that point...I had tried to uncover some
things but it just lost it's atmosphere.
A few more sprinkles and some people
walking with umbrellas and then home
to unpack the car and put everything away!
Fortunately, nothing was damaged!

The brighter spots of the day were seeing all
the wonderful people and pets (click here) who stopped by.
I appreciated all who stopped by to say hello and
those who purchased something and those thinking
about a commission in the future! Many thanks!

Feeling so exhausted, we almost missed the
fireworks. There wasn't any parking nearby
so we ended up parking in the exact same
place the D had parked in the afternoon
during the storm. We had quite a walk to the
ocean but we made it and found a low stone
wall upon which to sit and observe the
fireworks display.

Rain and More Rain

It's been a thoroughly rainy day and in the 50's!
