Orange Moon

Tonight we bundled up and rode over
to the ocean for a view of the
moon rising over the sea. It was so very
dark out with many stars.
A narrow cloud layer was along to the
horizon but it didn't take long for the moon
to rise above it and glow...

So lovely to see and I'm happy to be able to
share it here!

Sunset and Moon

A very bitter cold and windy day... it was
late afternoon when we ventured out for a little ride.
I was thinking about the moon as we rounded a
corner at the beach and was unaware of
when it would rise tonight.
Suddenly we were facing a beautiful sunset.
Too cold to get out of the car to
take photos so D turned the car around
so I could take some from the car window.
As we were now facing the direction
we had come from I gasped for
there was the full moon!

A bit more of a ride through the side streets
as the sky lost some of it's color
and the moon became brighter.

The Moon and Sun

Last night the moon was so mysterious
and beautiful as it was peeked through
an opening in the clouds with a subtle ring
of colors.

This morning a muted sun was in it's place,
I think of this sun as a snow sun and actually
snow is in the forecast for this afternoon.

Treasures at Low Tide

Just when I thought the sand dollars were
to be mostly found in the warmer months,
there was a beautiful single sand dollar
on the beach at low tide when I took a little walk.

Here's the whole collection from today...

Reflection

The ice has melted in our birdbath and the
reflection in it stopped me in my tracks this
morning and gave me pause to reflect!

The Sea

A windy clear afternoon at the beach and the
gulls were captivating... you can see some of them
over here.

A Visitor

Tonight Ellie May and I had a visitor
with wings in our studio.

Can you see what she is looking at?

here's a closer look...

This lovely ladybug
found a flower!

Unfortunately, it's a painted rock but hopefully
it will find something else in here to survive.

In My Pockets

We took a very invigorating walk late this
afternoon on the beach...I had two scarves wrapped
around my neck! I can't help but collect sea treasures
whenever I walk and today was no exception.
When I got home I emptied my pockets and
here are my gems!

Late Afternoon

How I loved the soft subtle colors in the sky and
sea late this afternoon...walking on the beach
was very chilly, especially when I kept taking my
hands out of my gloves to take pictures!

The tide was high and the water reached the
small beach rocks along the shore...

I love finding treasures in the sand and came
across this mussel shell that had so many
beautiful colors.

D and I just decided to continue our ride and
head down Ocean Ave. and that 's when I spotted
a bird on the wire...from a distance I thought it
was a Mourning Dove, but as we approached it
we realized it was a hawk...quickly D turned the
car around and we were able to sit quietly in the
car as I took some photos. Unfortunately, many
of them came out very blurry but a few were
relatively clear.

The bird book helped us to identify
it as a Cooper's hawk!

Several times the hawk flew to different
wires in the same vicinity before flying off in the
direction of the ocean as the
sun set.

It was a magical late afternoon!

Blue Sky

After many days of clouds and snow,
yesterday the sun
returned with blue blue skies...

...still cold!

Through My Window

It's another snowy day...working on art with
Ellie May in the studio but often we glance
out of the windows at the peaceful and serene
snowy scene and also at the beautiful birds!

A Warm Spell

It was warm enough today to actually take a
walk on the beach without freezing!
It was in the low 40's which felt like a heat wave!
To our amazement, when we drove down Ocean Ave.
in Kennebunkport, we saw a gathering of bluebirds!
I have only seen them a few time in the mild seasons,
so to see them in the middle of January was astonishing.
We noticed they were eating flies that must have hatched
from the seaweed! Very unusual for this time of year
in Maine!

Am working on a painting
of these magical bluebirds over
here with the help of my artist
cat helper, Ellie May.

Atlantic Plunge

A sparking, bitter cold Saturday morning on the
9th of January....why are all of these people gathered
on Gooch's beach in Kennebunk, Maine?

many brave people are here for a good cause...

you can see them in the movie below:

hope you enjoyed the movie above from the
warmth of your home!

...they didn't linger!

This little dog had the best place to watch the
event!

Dancers Celebrate January 6th

Was my B-day and while taking a ride through
the seacoast town of Ogunquit, Maine, we saw
these amazing, larger than life-size, copper
whimsical dancers and musicians
in a snowy yard
that filled our hearts with joy!

Snowy Vignettes

Taking a late afternoon ride with D was magical
with the softly falling snow...here are some of
the vignettes that we found so inspiring!
