My Painting of the Eiders

(click on image to see larger)

This is my other piece for the "Working Artists Show",
(see previous post)
I am going to mat these in one mat with two cutouts
so they will be side by side. The paintings are the eider ducks
that I love to watch over at the beach...click here and here
to see more of them through my camera!

More About Working Artists Show

The Exhibit at the Kennebunk Library for the
month of July is called
"Working Artists" and is organized by some
of the artists in
the Maine Illustrators' Collective.

There's more info on my blog 2 posts down and here's a link to more about it
over at the Maine Illustrators' Collective:
http://mecollective.blogspot.com/2009/06/not-your-usual-art-show.html

Below is one of the two paintings I will be exhibiting.
This triptych was inspired by the memory of
the lighthouse keeper and his connection to a special
book project I've been working on for
the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust.

Rain and Peonies

Amidst the rain and mist, the peonies are
blooming.

Working Artists Show

The upcoming WORKING ARTISTS SHOW, organized by some of the artists in the MEIC, Maine Illustrators' Collective, it is being held in a gallery space, at the Kennebunk Free Library in Kennebunk, ME.

Show runs July 2nd-July 31st

Artist's Reception is in Hank's Room, Kennebunk Free Library
July 8th 4:30-7:30pm The public is welcome.

This show, featuring many well-known published illustrators and designers, was conceived to promote public awareness of an art form usually seen for only a few fleeting moments in print or film. Most consumers are unaware of the background behind producing commercial art: the time, thought, and skill. Advertising art, design, and illustration, once considered less than fine art, have gathered followings, become collectible in reprint form, with some illustration and advertising art becoming part of museum collections.

These " invisible artists" rarely, if ever, show their imaginative illustrations or beautiful design work to the public. With the limitations of reproduction the many tiny pen, pencil, and pastel strokes, brushwork, beautiful color blends on acid-free papers and boards are usually “hidden” away in flat files right after being scanned and printed.

The WORKING ARTISTS SHOW is pleased to present work by:

Roses Along the Marginal Way

Saturday evening ( last night) we took a ride to
Ogunquit in hopes of finding a parking
space near the Marginal Way.
I had a yearning to walk along the footpath
overlooking the ocean when the beach roses
are blooming.
After getting a little bit lost on the back
roads, we found the spot where we can park for free.
It was so beautiful and we had just enough time,
before the sun set, to take it all in.

I'd like to share the walk with you via my photos.

We noticed this lovely quote along the way,
just after an experience with a chipmunk
which was most appropriate on many levels.

"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread,
places to play in and pray in,
where nature may heal and cheer
and give strength to body and soul alike."
John Muir

To see what I mean click here to visit my
Furry and Feathered Friends blog and meet
this unusual chipmunk.
I stopped to photograph the chippy
and then others stopped, til the chipmunk looked like
a celebrity who wasn't phased by an audience.

The Roses by the Sea

Today was overcast and only in the
50's...

This evening's ride led us to
Kennebunk Beach where the
beach roses were blooming...

...a favorite sight and one I always
love to paint. With my camera,
I collected many images from
which to work.

Around the bend were the eider ducks
and their young...click here to see more.

Cold and Quiet

Tonight's walk along the beach was chilly and
quiet...a few folks were fishing...we walked
with a friend visiting from Virginia who borrowed
my winter jacket!

End of the Day

Visiting the ocean at the end of the day
is a good place to sort one's thoughts.
