The Beach and River

So clear today...late afternoon at the beach.

Low tide in the river, the ducks are all in a row.

 

A delicate pattern woven against the fading sky.

Beach Walk

The sun was shining here in Maine as

 we bundled up in our winter coats with hoods, 

scarves, and gloves for a walk on the beach. 

It didn't resemble a spring day according to the

temperature or by the look of the attire of those

 enjoying the fresh air and sunshine but it was 

beautiful and a nice change from the snowy day

we had yesterday. 

Snowing Again

Snowed all day and now it is continuing into the night...

after shoveling out in the late afternoon

we visited the ocean for a look at the surf and 

sea birds...

To our great surprise, one wave was extra strong

and came right through D's window!

 

To think spring is officially here tomorrow!

Snow Covered Beach

It snowed again today...

even more is predicted for Wednesday!

The Sun Returns

It was nice to have the sun return,
though it was still mighty cold today
walking on the beach!

First Snow!

Late last night, by flashlight I returned to the
house from the studio and thought I caught a
glimpse of the tiniest snow flakes only visible
in the light of the flashlight.

When I awoke this morning, I could see the
roof of the studio was white...
so it did snow a little bit overnight.

Also, if you look very closely at the roof,
on the right side of the dormer, you can
see tracks in the snow...
ah ha, so that's how the little critters
(probably red squirrels) are entering the
attic and that explains the sounds I hear
near my upstairs work table in the studio.
I won't worry as long as they don't
chew through the walls or ceiling.

This may be it for the garden,
the few vegetables we have left are under
the tarps but the temperatures are so very
cold, high today 23 degrees...I don't know
if anything else will survive.

One last rose is quite frozen in time!



Later in the afternoon, the sky was dramatic
and the air so very cold...
but I jumped out of the car
when I spotted many little piper like
birds come in for a landing on the rocks below.
I fell in love with them as my fingers froze
trying to capture their beauty as the light faded
and the temperature plummeted.

Clouds and Rain

Clouds dominated today and when the rain
arrived it brought out the rich colors in the
vegetable garden.

Angel Wings

On Wednesday evening, D and I took a walk
on a favorite beach, the tide was high,
the sky was filled with beautiful
clouds as the sunset.

D found this shell...



a magical connection for him
to a beloved family member who recently left us.

Gulls and Shoes

In the early evening, we met our friend at the beach
who is visiting Maine from Virginia. She shared
her leftover pizza with the gulls who scrambled
and fought over it!

It was very very cold as we took a walk on the
beach.

We spotted something sitting upon a log that
had washed ashore.
Upon closer inspection, we realized it was
a high heeled shoe!

quite the contrast to our friends' red shoes and
D's boots!

Magnificent Tree Trunk

This is a close up of a section of a very sculptural
tree trunk that the sea left behind on the sandy
shore on Thursday.
I will post more photos of it later.
It was fascinating...

A Summer Day in April

Was in the 80's today...felt like summer!
What happened to spring?


Was very low tide as we walked on the beach
and D saw several piper like birds...when I looked
through my camera I discovered they were the
Piping Plovers.
What a treat to see them.

Spring Continues!

So wonderful to see the scilla and daffodils
blooming in our yard!

A favorite time to walk, a bit on the chilly side last night!

A Heart Puddle

While walking on the beach late this
afternoon, I was trying to capture the
reflection of the clouds in the puddles
in the sand when we realized
one of the puddles was in the
shape of a heart.

Shells and Serenity

...shells from one end of the beach to the other

and around the bend, the ocean was so serene

some special sea ducks...

Simply Beautiful

Tonight the sky and sea were
simply beautiful!

Mist and a Dramatic Sky

The air was so heavy with humidity tonight...
creating a mysterious mist along the coast,
not quite fog.

unusual lighting...

D and I wandered through Dock Square a bit
before heading home...

Cold and Quiet

Tonight's walk along the beach was chilly and
quiet...a few folks were fishing...we walked
with a friend visiting from Virginia who borrowed
my winter jacket!
