Signs of Spring...

finding a cluster of crocuses gathered around a tree...

being able to sit on a bench overlooking the ocean
without freezing!

noticing songbirds have returned to the road along
the coast...you can hear their songs and see couples
sitting on rooftops.

The silence and solitude of winter is now behind us.

Is It Spring or Summer?

Crocuses, scilla and snowdrops have bloomed this week
and the Cornelian cherry trees are flowering.
This is about a month early for our location in Maine.

The temperature was around 80 degrees...
so summery...where is spring?

Children could be seen at the beach
in bathing suits in March!

Have you had unseasonably warm temperatures
recently?

Frost to Sunshine

Frost has been outlining the leaves in the early
morning...

while sunshine has been glowing through the colorful
crocuses during the day.

Early Spring Moments

The snow from April 1st didn't stop the crocuses...

what a surprise to find parsnips that made it
through the winter...one appears to be dancing!

This beautiful little blue scilla had hitchhiked
into a plant that had been outdoors last year
and brought in for the winter...
what a treat to see it blooming indoors!

April Fools

Yesterday, Thursday, I was delighted to see
the purple crocuses had opened to join the
yellow and white ones.

Little did I know that the snowdrops
would actually be the harbinger of a blizzard!

This morning, April 1st, I opened my eyes to the fluffiest
snow clinging to trees and turning the yard
back into a winter wonderland!

ps. well, the fluffy snow turned into a wet heavy snow
and then the sleet and rain arrived which eventually
turned back into snow.
Meanwhile, the power went out at around 8:30 am.
and just returned about 4 pm.
This is quite an April Fool's Day here in Maine...

Hope the weather is kinder to you wherever you may be!

Winter?

Though we had an early spring here in southern Maine,
it doesn't mean that we still can't have a taste of winter.

This morning I awoke to a light dusting of snow...

and it's cold enough to have icicles this afternoon!

Signs of Spring in Connecticut

During a walk around the block
on a mild afternoon in Connecticut,
I spotted some signs of spring...
hmmm, it's still March.

Crocuses

Before I left for Connecticut on Saturday,
the crocuses were the colorful accents in
our yard. I'm wondering what may be blooming
when I return in about a week.

Sun and Fog

The sun was shining today as the first sighting
of the honeybees visited the crocuses.

Late afternoon, the fog rolled in
down by the sea.

Colorful Signs of Spring

A tiny flash of yellow in the front
yard caught my eye, could it be...
upon closer inspection... the first
of the yellow crocuses.

The snowdrops appeared a few days ago.
We still have patches of snow and chilly
windy air!
