After the Storm

Snow glistened and shadows fell

early this morning as the sun rose

after the storm yesterday.

There was evidence at the beach that the ocean was

wild from the storm for there had been many rocks 

thrown into the road from the waves.

By the time we arrived at sunset the roads were 

mostly cleared.

A Little of Everything

Several days ago I noticed the daffodil reeds poking up 

around the apple tree...

a little while later I heard a tapping on the window....

 

 

looked like hail, sleet, snow and rain...

fast and furious and then it was gone.

The sun appeared through dark clouds.

In the early evening the sky was so dramatic.

The green in the rocks reminded me of spring!

Is It Spring or Summer?

Crocuses, scilla and snowdrops have bloomed this week
and the Cornelian cherry trees are flowering.
This is about a month early for our location in Maine.

The temperature was around 80 degrees...
so summery...where is spring?

Children could be seen at the beach
in bathing suits in March!

More Blues

Rain and sleet visited the coast for a good part
of the day bringing with it a churned up ocean
and misty blues!

Sea Foam

Very cold walking along the shore
as gusts of wind rolled sea foam
down the beach...

Serene

soft and serene...sky at sunset

Chance of Frost

Tonight is clear and cold and
could perhaps be the first frost!
Oh no! Our vegetable garden is in danger.

This and That on a September Day

the sunflowers have grown so tall, surveying the
garden and attracting the bees and hummingbird....

the beach is quite empty....long shadows in the
early evening as we take a walk before dark.

Surf

The heavy rain last night and into today created
a stormy sea with huge waves.
The ocean was dotted with 2 kinds of surfers
riding the waves.

Simple Pleasures

Yesterday, in the early evening, D and I went over
to the beach for an invigorating walk
for it felt like winter! There were
only 2 figures on the beach, a father and his young
son, trying to fly a kite.
We enjoyed watching the relentless enthusiasm and
joy of this young child, who never gave up no matter how
many times the kite fell into the wet sand.
They were successful!

At the end of the beach there's a spot where the
beach roses grow right out of the rocks smoothed
by the sea. They are just beginning to bloom and
they are one of my favorite flowers
that signifies summer to me.

May Day

As the sun set on May Day, we took a
serene walk on the beach to reflect on the day.

A Touch of Summer in April

There was a hint of summer early this morning
and we headed for the beach for a walk.
The clouds rolled in and kept it from being
uncomfortably hot!

Back in our garden, I was thrilled to
see the magnolia blooming.
As I wandered through the garden
with my camera, I came upon so many
sights I wanted to capture.
The tulips and pink hyacinths, tiny violets
and scilla, so many daffodils and
flowers that I can't remember the names of.


Also exciting were the vegetables from last
year, some very tiny parsnips, rhubarb, onions...

Then I settled down to paint birds with my cat Ellie May!

Kites

When we approached the beach today,
we were dazzled by kites dotting the sky.

Beautiful colors and shapes
flying in the wind.

Had the look of a summer day, except
for the bitter cold air and winter clothing!

The Warmth of the Sun

A warm sunny day in March in Maine
brought many to the beach to enjoy the
warmth of the sun.

The joy and excitement could be felt by observing
the many dogs frolicking on the beach if you click here.

While taking a walk, I looked down among the
rocks and saw the perfect angel wings that survived
the tides. It is a special reminder of a dear one.

A Gray Day

Though it was a grayish day, the
light at the beach was soft and enveloping.

The cold damp air made us happy to be inside
a warm home again after a short walk on the beach.

A Movie, Winter Beach in Maine

D sent me a little movie that he took yesterday
of one of the beaches where we walk.

A Foggy Day

The fog greeted me through the window
this morning and lingered throughout the day.

Later we took a walk along the beach.

Reaching the jetty, I looked down the
Kennebunk River and through the fog I could
barely see the soft outline of the building
where our gallery had been.


...while walking down the beach near the jetty,
I turned the corner and there, sitting on a log,
was a perfect little pumpkin, that must have floated
in with the tide... the sand still clinging to it.


In the distance, a father and daughter
walked along the jetty.
Their little dog joined them.

...there's something special about a foggy day!

Surf

Today the air was calm and the temperatures
on the mild side but the sea was a different story.



Something yellow caught my eye and
I followed a yellow butterfly as it clung
to wild radish flowers as the sea
roared around it.

The sea appeared deceptively calm
in between big swells that crashed
upon the rocky coast.
A mist settled over Mt. Agamenticus
as the sun began to set.
