Happy New Year

the bluebird of happiness
visited yesterday...
hope the new year will bring happiness,
kindness,
good health, contentment and peace

very cold but beautiful along the Maine coast

Hope all of the birds and wildlife critters stay safe.
This little white-throated sparrow was sheltering
 in our snow laden rhododendron.

The Beach and River

So clear today...late afternoon at the beach.

Low tide in the river, the ducks are all in a row.

A delicate pattern woven against the fading sky.

Autumn and the Fog

The fog rolled in and enhanced the beautiful autumn colors
 and added magic and mystery.

The Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse

We were lucky to have a clear night to watch the
magical full moon rise over the ocean and
the cormorants who flew in to the island for the night.

the bonus was the lunar eclipse...

A Hint of Sun

The past few days we have had a little respite from the
 incredible blizzards
and it may continue into next week.
Though we still have mountains of snow
and it is super cold we can almost believe
that spring may not be too far away.

Snow Storm

So very cold today ...the temperatures hovered
in the single numbers and below zero.

A very fine snow gently fell all day.
Sea smoke rose from the ocean at the beach adding
an air of mystery.

Not much was stirring at the beach
but we did notice a group of ring billed gulls
huddled together sitting in the sand.

It was so good to be back in the warmth
of our home.

August Memories

In August a magical thing happened...
I was able to return
to spend time with family at a very special cottage in Maine.
Many many years ago it belonged to my grandparents.
My siblings and I were fortunate to be able to spend every summer
since we were little babies at the cottage with family
and cousins, aunts and uncles all around us as we grew up into
teenagers and young adults.
The memories of those summers are deep within me
and resurfaced when I was able to step back
into the cottage and see familiar things...

Though the screened in porch has been closed in
with real windows it was still wonderful to sit
out there and play cards and even paint.

The door knobs were the same and the
kitchen cabinets and bead board walls.

Loved seeing the wall scone, another
sight from the past.
There were so many little reminders...

My brother and his children and my grand nephew
built an elaborate castle and boat!

I love that beach in the fog...

and when it is stormy and I can look out of
the upstairs window as the waves rush in...

and even when it rains...it was so cozy!

The Full Moon

We went to the beach last night in anticiptation
of seeing the full moon rising.

We were not sure which direction it would rise
and a thin layer of clouds was low on the horizon.
Then mysteriously it appeared, peeking over the clouds,
pale and beautiful over a calm ocean.

For those of you who were in an overcast sky
last night, I hope you enjoy seeing this special full moon.

It's Snowing!

What a sight through my windows
this morning...

the snow fell through the day

turning to sleet in the late afternoon...

Suddenly it feels like winter!
