Evening Bike Ride

Our car won't start...
tonight we decided to take a little
bike ride. D's bike hasn't had use in years
so he filled the tires with air and we headed
out... we didn't have much time before dark.
We made it to town and paused by the sign post.

Our sign is still there, faded and pointed in the
wrong direction from the time when we had
our gallery down the road
where the river meets the sea.

We kept going...like homing pigeons...

The tide was very low...

and ended up near our old gallery and
Ellie May's (our cat) first home and territory.

We spotted about 4 young kingfishers flying
around and here's one of them taking a break.

We had just enough light to make it back home.

Am so glad we ventured out!

Last Night's Rainbow

Thursday was hot and humid...with a
few thunderstorms thrown in.
I worked all day on art
and after a thunderstorm in the eve,
D said, "let's take a ride before dark".

Am I glad that we did for the sky was magnificent
and it treated us to an unusual rainbow!

This and That

On Monday our niece from California stayed with us
and it was great to spend time with her.

A surprise sunset greeted us as we took a walk through
Dock Square and reached the tidal basin after dinner...

She was about set out on a new adventure...
early Tuesday morning she drove off to Vermont.

Tuesday evening D and I took a ride to Ocean Park
near Old Orchard Beach...a special place.

The tide was very low...

we enjoyed watching eider ducks and their young...

We took a path and discovered this beautiful
little garden by the sea... the garden was lined
with clam shells!

The path was charming and people had attached
all kinds of whimsical beach findings to the fence...

Our favorite ice cream stand in Pine Point
was still opened
and that was a wonderful way to end the day!

It's good to be spontaneous sometimes!

Last Night's Stroll

What a beautiful day yesterday was...
clear and cool
although there were moments of sudden rain and
even hail that only lasted a minute or two dotted
throughout the day.
By evening it was time to take a little walk and so
we went to a favorite spot and walked where the
beach roses ( rosa rugosa) were in full bloom
with golden magic light...

A treat to savor!

Dramatic Sky

The weather created some great clouds tonight
and this one looked like a funnel cloud...
Luckily it drifted by to our north and from
our vantage point, it didn't even rain.
When we got home, we could see that it
had poured just several miles away.

More of today's clouds will be coming later so
check back!

Here's more...

the clouds and light kept changing...

it was so dramatic and beautiful!

I Love Fog

The fog lingered on the coast all day...
by early evening I was inspired to take my bike
out for a ride in the fog...it was nice and cool.
I love the softness that the fog instills.

I paused along the way to take in the beauty
and mystery of it all.

A special place for me is where the river meets
the sea. This is where Ellie May's first home was.
I sat on a bench and watched gulls and laughing
gulls dive into the Kennebunk River.
You can see some over here.

Hope you enjoyed the ride...
