Minus 3

One glance out the window early
this morning reveals just how cold
it became overnight.
When the rhododendron leaves are
curled up very tight it means VERY cold!
-3 F in this case!

Brrrrrrr

Wonderful clouds yesterday...too cold and windy
for us to walk!

Early this morning it was 3 degrees (F) and the high
may only be 12 degrees for the day!

Fog and Warmth

Sunday was a very foggy day...the air temperatures
were warming up and melting the snow creating
ground fog that was very beautiful and mysterious!

A quiet walk at the beach

as foot steps disappeared into the fog.

Today was so warm, we didn't need jackets.
Hmmmm, this is January in Maine!
The tide was very high.

The snow melted enough so that D could
get to the vegetable garden and peer under
the plastic enclosure that had collapsed
from the weight of the last snowstorm.
To his delight he pulled out a leek!
The leeks got a late start in planting
last year so he was very surprised
to see this. There are more
and it is such a treat to have some
winter leeks!

Sunday

I had an early morning breakfast  with
Brody over here
and then later D surprised me with the
above!
As he described it:
blueberry gluten free waffle (Van's frozen waffles),
strawberry jam with medallions of bananas
and cutie clementine wedges!
It looked beautiful!

Among the treasures found on the beach today
were 6 sand dollars for January 6th!

Touch of Red

Even in winter there are touches of red...
On a cold winter's day rose hips
brighten the view of the sea.

The red stop sign sure does catch one's eye!

First Day of January

Early morning, quiet and a glowing
 sunrise
 reflected in our car windows.

Sunset
cold, calm and peaceful.
