Starfish and Sunset

While walking along the beach this afternoon,
I spotted a tiny starfish.
I seldom see starfish and never on this beach so I was
very surprised...

It was very beautiful...

...as was the enchanting sunset on a favorite road.

The Sun Returns

It was nice to have the sun return,
though it was still mighty cold today
walking on the beach!

Stormy Sea

After we shoveled out this afternoon,
we wondered what the surf might be like...

Just going by the tidal basin was a hint of
what to expect for there
were waves in what normally is calm water.

The tide was high and the surf was wild and crashing
with rooster tails...
something about a storm and the ocean that is so
mesmerizing.

We watched til almost dark...

More Snow

More snow fell overnight...with it
snow drifts.
Too heavy to clear the paths by
sweeping the snow early this
morning!
I was on my way over to the studio
to feed Ellie May, who you can see
waiting and watching from the left
upstairs window.

This snow called for a shovel!

Once safely inside the studio and
looking back at the house, I noticed how
magical the windows looked.

This is one of our lemon trees!

If you have snow, I hope you can enjoy it's beauty!

Snow

This afternoon we took a walk along the
ocean just before the first major snowstorm
of this winter began.
Loved the subtle shades in the bleached
beach grass.

It was so bitter cold,
my toes nearly froze!

Tonight the snow is falling and it is
very blustery... predictions are for
10 -16 inches of snow with big drifts.
We'll see, just hope we don't lose
the electricity!

Hope you are warm and safe wherever
you may be!

Snow and a Mackerel Sky

Thursday morning all is quiet with a new blanket of snow...

...while at the beach, a mackerel sky
was very dramatic!

Full Moon

A blanket of thick clouds covered
the sky all day...exceptionally cold
with a feeling of snow without the snow.
Then late this afternoon tiny snowflakes
started falling and soon it was covering
the ground.
I heard that tonight is a lunar eclipse but we
thought with the cloud layer we will not
be able to view it.
Well, the clouds made way for the moon later
this evening.
Don't know if we'll be awake to see the eclipse
but it was magical to see the moon!

Towards Evening

Was a gray cold Sunday and once the afternoon
slowly disappeared the moon shone through
the branches...

First Snow!

Late last night, by flashlight I returned to the
house from the studio and thought I caught a
glimpse of the tiniest snow flakes only visible
in the light of the flashlight.

When I awoke this morning, I could see the
roof of the studio was white...
so it did snow a little bit overnight.

Also, if you look very closely at the roof,
on the right side of the dormer, you can
see tracks in the snow...
ah ha, so that's how the little critters
(probably red squirrels) are entering the
attic and that explains the sounds I hear
near my upstairs work table in the studio.
I won't worry as long as they don't
chew through the walls or ceiling.

This may be it for the garden,
the few vegetables we have left are under
the tarps but the temperatures are so very
cold, high today 23 degrees...I don't know
if anything else will survive.

One last rose is quite frozen in time!

Later in the afternoon, the sky was dramatic
and the air so very cold...
but I jumped out of the car
when I spotted many little piper like
birds come in for a landing on the rocks below.
I fell in love with them as my fingers froze
trying to capture their beauty as the light faded
and the temperature plummeted.

Magnificent Sunset

The sunset tonight was so beautiful... the ocean
was wild and the air was freezing ...
all in all an invigorating
and very dramatic combination...

Freezing in the Garden

D checked on the status of the
vegetables that are still in the garden
late this afternoon...
it is so bitter cold!

He managed to cut more Swiss chard
and

pull out another leek...the biggest so far!
There may be about 4 more in the ground.

December Garden Vegetables

It's been a stormy Sunday, started out early with
black ice! Warming up to rain and wind and it's
still going on tonight!

Snuggled in her counter basket is Polly.
She kept me company while I prepared the
vegetables that D brought in from the garden tonight.
Am amazed to still have some really fresh veggies
in December!

Love Swiss Chard and wish we could have it all
through the rest of the winter but I think this
may be nearing the end of it.

Brussel sprouts...thought the freezing temperatures
over the past weeks might have done them in
but these seemed fine!
Such a treat!

Garden Vegetable and the Moon in December!

This is the first leek that D pulled out from
the nearly frozen ground in our garden...
It's fragrance filled the house!
Very exciting!

Meanwhile, the moon looked soft and lovely
tonight.

Another cold evening and happy to be inside
snuggled with our kitties!

Prelude Weekend, Kennebunkport

This past weekend was the Christmas Prelude in Kennebunkport.
We were part of the first Prelude 29 years ago when we had our
gallery and enjoyed many more for about 23 years.
Now that my studio is off the beaten path my
visible presence at the Prelude is to be in a craft fair.
I also have some art in the Whimsy Shop in Dock Square and
my studio is opened for those who would like to visit!
(Call or e-mail for directions!)

The Craft Fair was at the Consolidated School on Saturday.
After setting it up on Friday night we drove through
Dock Square...

...very festive with sparkling lights everywhere!

After finding a parking spot in front of our first gallery
in the Lower village on Sunday, we wandered over to
Dock Square and poked our heads into some shops.

It was very cold and gray!

The Clam Shack was closed for the season.

The bridge pigeons took to the air...

The crowds of Saturday had thinned out...

The road was cleared for Santa's arrival by Lobster Boat...

Santa's Lobster Helpers waited by the tree...

The simplicity and tranquility of the beach at sunset
was very soothing!

In the evening we had the pleasure of attending
a wonderful Party
and I met the sweetest dog named Maisie.
