Old Treasures

While rummaging through all kinds of
old things in my Dad's basement I opened
a tin and inside were all of these rocks
that I had drawn on a long, long time ago.
I used to draw little tiny pictures
with little tiny writing
of my favorite quotations.
I actually drew on everything...
even little wooden beads,
spools and seashells!

a tiny wooden bead...

Today I am inspired by sea shells...
I brought some of my favorites to Connecticut
with me and by painting them I can feel the
sea and the feeling of collecting them on the
coast of Maine.
To see what I've been working on just click here!

Thanks!

Early Morning in Connecticut

My Dad and I were up early this morning...
as very light snow gently fell, I stepped outside.
The sky had a beautiful soft pinkish cast and
the trees were outlined with snow.
So beautiful and peaceful.

Hope all is well in your part of the world.

Some Photos From D in Maine

D sent me these photos today...
he's home in Maine and experienced
a wild windy rain storm the past few days.
Today the sun did return but the damage
remains... no power.

The handicap ramp to the beach was
torn apart as you can see above.

The rain had washed away all of the snow in our yard and
our witch hazel is blooming.
Signs of spring...

I'm down here in Connecticut where it's snowing!

Some Bad Weather

I'm still in Connecticut and was talking
to my husband up in Maine.
They had torrential rain for 26 hours
and hurricane force winds that knocked the
power out in the middle of the night.
This morning, still no power.
He's going out to see if he can find out
what happened. Bet the surf is wild.
He may take a few photos that I will share
if he sends them to me.

Meanwhile, does anyone know about food
safety in the refrigerator and freezer during
and after a power outage.
( will search the internet, too)

Those of you in inclement weather,
I hope you are all safe and warm!

A Rainy Day

Am still in Connecticut, a dark rainy day...

A good day to help my Dad sort things that have been
saved for many years in the basement, much of it is
mundane, light bulbs, hardware, office supplies etc.
but every now and then some treasure from childhood.
It's a slow process for we pause to reminisce often
and end up just putting most things in different containers
and actually discard very little for you never know when
you might need something. The two of us are savers!
He even found some beach rocks
from a very long time ago. At least we are trying
to organize it but have a long ways to go.

Do you have a difficult time throwing things out?

A Family Visit

Am visiting my Dad...helping him learn things
on his computer...found this little chair in the
basement that's just the perfect size for him
while he sits at his computer!
(looks like he's in kindergarten)

Gazing out of the window at lightly falling snow and
missing my beloved Mom, she is always with me
in my heart.

A Sunny Walk

While D raked seaweed to be used as vegetable
garden fertilizer, I wandered down to the
other end of the beach picking up rocks and shells.
Felt milder than it has been which was such a relief.
Many people and dogs were also out enjoying the
salt air and a leisurely walk along the shore.
The tide was high which made for a narrow
beach!
On the way back home, we saw something in the
sky that was thrilling....you can see what we saw
by clicking over here!

Thanks for stopping by!

Is It a Mountain or a Cloud?

Today was a strange day if one looked at the sky.
The early morning was clear blue, mid-day thick
gray clouds filled the sky.
While returning from errands late this afternoon
the sky seemed to clear again overhead but as
we drove along, the horizon appeared to have
mountains where none existed.
(almost felt like we were in New Hampshire)

It was amazing to see and was still there
when we drove by the beach.

If you would like to see more photos, just click here.

Thanks and I hope you enjoyed the beautiful sky tonight!

Snow and Shells

While out for a ride yesterday afternoon
we saw an unusual couple, click here
to see them...

The snow fell very lightly in the afternoon yesterday...
I collected shells on the beach til my hands froze!
I love the shapes and colors, hope to
draw and paint them soon.

Delicate Snow

light snow fell overnight...
delicately clinging to the branches this morning.

A Windy Day

Today was especially windy making it very
bitter cold at the beach. The light was so clear
and the wind skimmed the ocean causing
beautiful ripples over the surface. The ocean
had beautiful shades of green...

D and I went to another spot down the road,
not really expecting to find any seabirds
but to our surprise there were some
we had never seen before...
you can take a look over here.

Heart!

I've mentioned before how much
I love to collect small heart shaped rocks
when taking walks along the shore...
I am so delighted whenever
find a little treasure.

So this morning,
for Valentine's Day,
my hubby had a
surprise...
I squealed with delight!

( my little heart rock on the left
with D's big heart surprise!)

I hope your day is filled with
a good surprise!

A Heart Puddle

While walking on the beach late this
afternoon, I was trying to capture the
reflection of the clouds in the puddles
in the sand when we realized
one of the puddles was in the
shape of a heart.

A Beach Day

Yesterday was actually a bit milder and the surf was
beautiful with rooster tails!

Had to smile when I saw this very small bike
parked at the beach!

Hope the sun is shining where you are!

Spring Green

Yesterday, with a few snow flurries and a biting wind,
D collected seaweed to help fertilize the vegetable garden...
though we still have many months before planting season.

Along the coast, a hint of green is upon the rocks,
a subtle reminder of spring
while still in the midst of winter.

Shells and Serenity

...shells from one end of the beach to the other

and around the bend, the ocean was so serene

If you look closely at the water, you can see
some special sea ducks...
just click here for a closer look.
They were a joy to watch!

Hope you have some tranquil moments in your day!

Vibrant

I happened to be upstairs in the late afternoon
when I glanced out of the window and noticed
pink in the sky...so beautiful, the colors
kept changing and became more intense.

I ran outside with my camera as quickly as
possible to get a clear view before it all
faded away.

I hope you enjoy the sunset this evening!

Clear and Cold

A very cold clear day here in southern Maine...
lost the lens cap for my camera at the beach
this morning while photographing this...
I searched and searched and it was
nowhere to be found, blended in with the rocks
if that is where I dropped it.
I sure hope I will be able to find a replacement
for it, I'll have to be very careful til then!

D is planning ahead and just went back
to the beach late this afternoon
to begin collecting seaweed for the vegetable garden.

Hope you are having a good Sunday!

Night Light

Several nights ago, I was taken by the light
glowing from the studio as the evening sky darkened.

So Cold!

Taking a walk this afternoon was difficult for
it was so very cold, especially when we turned
around and had to walk back into the biting
bitter wind!

This is what I managed to collect and quickly
place in my pocket!

I love the little shells that I happen to call
Hat Shells though I don't think that is their name.
Am always on the lookout for heart shaped rocks, too!
I saw someone with a nice collection over here.

Winter Along the Coast

The morning snow was so very light as the
sun reflected on the ocean...so calm.

Sundog, Ducks and Cape Porpoise With Panorama

Have you ever seen a sundog?
Here's one we saw this afternoon.
(looks like a rainbow near the sun)

Was crystal clear and cold today...the ducks were
plentiful in Cape Porpoise harbor...
for a better look at one of them just click here...

That's D all bundled up and taking a panorama
photo of Goat Island Lighthouse...

ps.
here's the panorama that D took...
just click on the photo to see it larger...
