Remembering a Special Place

Years ago I was fortunate to
live on the top floor of this Victorian
house upon a rocky cliff,
that belonged to a generous family.
It was like a dream, seagulls soared
by the windows and the views of the
ocean were spectacular.

I kept visual diaries where I would draw
something from life every day.

This is the town where I met my
husband!
It will always be a special place to me.

A Special Concert, Paul Sullivan

This afternoon we were delighted to attend a Paul Sullivan concert
at a Community College in a nearby town.
Paul Sullivan is an extremely talented composer and pianist, who lives
in Brooklin Maine, near Bar Harbor.
His concerts are very uplifting and he has a wonderful sense of humor
to go along with his music.
His website is www.rivermusic.com
and you can also find more concise info here.

Colorful Signs of Spring

A tiny flash of yellow in the front
yard caught my eye, could it be...
upon closer inspection... the first
of the yellow crocuses.

The snowdrops appeared a few days ago.
We still have patches of snow and chilly
windy air!

Kites

When we approached the beach today,
we were dazzled by kites dotting the sky.

Beautiful colors and shapes
flying in the wind.

Had the look of a summer day, except
for the bitter cold air and winter clothing!

Almost Spring

Twas the day before Spring and snow still
covers some of our yard.

Wearing a winter jacket, scarf and
gloves while taking a walk at the
beach, I met an acquaintance
and exchanged greetings.
He said it's a bit warmer, spring is officially
tomorrow ... so you won't need your scarf.

Stepping out of the library tonight, the air
was crisp and as the sun was setting
the silhouette of the trees caught my eye.

Creole Miss, the Tugboat and Remembering the Days of Beach Cats

An afternoon walk to the jetty this afternoon
coincided with the colorful Creole Miss tugboat
and barge leaving the Kennebunk River
heading out to sea. A sight to behold!

( Our last gallery was in the building with the
blue roof across the river. At that time it was
known as the
Schooner's Inn and we were there
for 8 years
from 1994 to 2002. Was a magical
location where the river meets the sea.
It was there our wonderful cat, Ellie May
chose us to be her family. She actually
moved into our gallery and became the "shop cat",
greeting customers and drawing a fan club of her own.
We've been working side by side, everyday ever since!
She's my supervisor and a guiding light!
I've written and illustrated several stories
about Ellie May and her son Walter's adventures
in a small seacoast tourist town. It's not often you
see cats on the beach!
They have not been published , maybe someday!)

I painted this a few years ago of Walter on
the beach.

Venus

As I glanced through the upstairs
window this evening, I was struck
by the clarity of the night sky
and the brightness of Venus.

Fog

After a morning that began with sleet, then rain,
the fog rolled in.

The fog added an air of mystery along the ocean.

Patches of grass are now appearing in
the snow covered ground.

Ring Around the Moon

Tonight as I walked out of the studio it was very bright
and as I looked up, the full moon was circled with colored
rings surrounded by layered white clouds.

In the snow were tracks of a large animal, perhaps a fox or
coyote.

ps.
Had a better view of the tracks this morning ( Tuesday)

Anyone have any ideas who this could be?

Moon Light

Through the dark of night, my little solar lantern
and the soft moonlight lit my pathway to the studio
tonight. The beautiful moon was cause to pause!
Hope wherever you are, you can take a moment
to gaze at the moon.

The Warmth of the Sun

A warm sunny day in March in Maine
brought many to the beach to enjoy the
warmth of the sun.

The joy and excitement could be felt by observing
the many dogs frolicking on the beach if you click here.

While taking a walk, I looked down among the
rocks and saw the perfect angel wings that survived
the tides. It is a special reminder of a dear one.

A Gray Day

Though it was a grayish day, the
light at the beach was soft and enveloping.

The cold damp air made us happy to be inside
a warm home again after a short walk on the beach.

Through the Window

Gazing through the window late this afternoon,
I loved how delicate the branches appeared against
the blanket of snow.

Winter's Thermometer

Every morning we check the temperature outside
by opening the shade and looking at the rhododendrum.
This morning we are having a blizzard and the rhododendrum
leaves are curled up quite tightly which means it's very cold!
The tighter they are curled the colder it is, so when the
leaves are flat we know we are having a heat wave, not the
case today. Brrrrrr...

The trees are full of birds, waiting their
turn at the birdfeeders. The fine snow
is blowing sideways.

A nuthatch braved the storm...
