Remembering a Special Place

Years ago I was fortunate to
live on the top floor of this Victorian
house upon a rocky cliff,
that belonged to a generous family.
It was like a dream, seagulls soared
by the windows and the views of the
ocean were spectacular.

I kept visual diaries where I would draw
something from life every day.

This is the town where I met my
husband!
It will always be a special place to me.

Can't even imagine how great it must have been to live in that house!
A wonderful memory, I'm sure.

What a gorgeous old house, with fantastic views...a perfect place for an artist like you. That's a great drawing of D, too! It reminds me of one of my favorite children's book illustrators, Victor G. Ambrus.

It's beautiful. You've been lucky in the houses you've chosen. I think the one you have now is lovely.

Is that a sketch of your husband?

Judy,
It was truly like a dream to be able to have a room at the top of that house! Have many stories from those days! Did you ever remember Rosalie's Restaurant in Marblehead?
I drew her first menu when she just started out. That was their home.

quiltcat,
I loved to draw from all of the windows and it was a magical time to be there. I always had my drawing book with me and drew everything around me...even D working on his car!

Marnie,
That is a drawing of my husband before he was my husband! He was reading...When I think back to all of the places I lived, they all had something special and I was always (and still am) a financially poor artist but somehow managed to find a place that inspired... even if I had to share a corner of a room.
Now D and I live in the house we built... it's made out of my paintings and love and D's sweat and tears and may never be finished but I am so thankful to have it.

ruthie,
Thanks so much for your comment. I had kept drawing book journals for many years beginning in college.
They recorded my feelings in ways words could not.

oldcrow61,
My visual diary seemed to go well with my wandering days. I always had my drawing book with me, it was my best companion.
