Years ago, I was asked to create the pen and ink
drawings of Scraggly for the book
"Scraggly the Stowaway Cat" by Tom Bradbury
of Cape Porpoise.
At the time we were renting our gallery space from
Ron Goyette, an oil painter of the sea. He and Tom
were working on this book when they realized Ron
had not put a cat into any of his paintings. His love and
specialty were the sea and ships and scenes.
( also, he was more of a dog person!)
They knew how much I loved cats and so I was
called in to draw Scraggly!

Hi Nan. How interesting to know more about how your involvement with the book came about! (would be pretty funny to have a book about a cat with no picture of the cat in there!) It looks like you ended up doing a fair number of inside illustrations, not just the cat.
Hi quiltcat,
wouldn't that have been something to have a book about a cat and not have any pictures of a cat in it! I did about 17 or 18 illustrations of the cat, the schooner and crew, some Boston wharf scenes... a little of everything!
That's a great story, and what a lovely book. :)

Thanks Kim!
