Ogunquit

What should we do this afternoon?
The strong winds of the morning brought
sunshine in the afternoon, a very clear light.
D suggested we head south to Ogunquit,
Maine ( about 17 miles from home) .
What a wonderful decision it turned out to be.

After a stop in the Harbor Candy Shop where
we were lucky to find some chocolate in the
bargain basket, we started
walking and ended up on the Marginal Way.

It was so beautiful way up high on the rocky
cliffs overlooking the sea...so majestic!
It was just what we needed. Sometimes it
is good to be spontaneous and
just get away for a little while to
clear one's mind and just enjoy the moment
without feeling guilty that you
should be doing something else.

Beautiful pictures! I've never seen Ogunquit before, but I had a picture of it in my mind from reading Stephen King's The Stand (part of it takes place there). Maine looks lovely, I hope to visit there some day!

Sounds like a wonderful day trip. I can clearly see from your photos why it is so often referred to as the rugged coast of Maine. Did I ever mention that Elizabeth Ogilvy is one of my all time favorite authors. Reading her books has made me want to see it for so long.

Willoughby, Marnie at Roses and Lilacs and Gemma,
Thanks for writing! Maine is a beautiful state and I hope you all have a chance to visit... (we have only seen a tiny part of it)

Marnie,
I have never read Elizabeth Ogilvy,
I will have to look her up in the library!

I've always wondered what Ogunquit looked like. I'm not sure if I'd heard of it through Stephen King or elsewhere, but it's one of those names you remember :) Thank you for sharing such beautiful pictures.

Hi Nan, I've just been catching up with your last few posts (I do find it difficult to keep up with all the lovely blogs I follow) and I loved the photo of the Chipmunk and Tulips in a previous post, I thought it was really stunning!

What a lovely area you live in. We are about as far from the sea, where we live, as it is possible to be in the UK, the nearest place is a six hour drive there and back, so it is a very occasional outing for us.

Beautiful photos!

Kim, Thanks! Ogunquit is a special place!

Shy Songbird,
Thanks so much for your wonderful comments...I am thankful to live a few miles from the ocean.

Judy,
So glad you stopped by from Furry and Feathered Friends! We hadn't walked on the Marginal Way for a long time and it felt so wonderful.
Will have to go back when the beach roses are blooming!
